ALERT! ABA Warns of Fraudulent E-Mail

American Bankers Association’s name is being used in a new phishing e-mail. The e-mail informs recipients that an “unauthorized transaction” has been charged to their account using their bank card. The amount of the transaction is listed, and recipients are asked to click on a link to review the transaction.

The e-mail is fraudulent, and recipients should not click on the link. ABA is working with law enforcement to identify the source of the e-mails and to disrupt them.

ALERT! FDIC Email Scam

The FDIC is warning that fraudulent e-mails claiming to be from the agency are in circulation. The e-mails come from the address “FDIC ” and have a subject line that reads: “FDIC Alert: check your Bank Deposit Insurance Coverage.”

The e-mail tells recipients that, “Recently FDIC has officially named the bank you have opened your account with as a failed bank, thus, taking control of its assets.” The e-mail then asks recipients to visit the FDIC Web site to check their deposit insurance coverage and provides a fraudulent link. It then instructs recipients to “download and open your personal FDIC Insurance File to check your Deposit Insurance Coverage.”

Recipients should consider the e-mail an attempt to collect personal or confidential information. The FDIC does not issue unsolicited e-mails to consumers. DO NOT follow the link in the fraudulent e-mail.

ALERT! Attempted Phone Scam

A number of customers have received a prerecorded call soliciting debit card information. Though no financial institution is identified in the automated message, the call indicates your Visa debit card has been deactivated for suspicious activity and prompts you to enter card number, expiration date, and security code into the phone’s key pad. This has been identified as a phishing scam. Union State Bank does not solicit this type of information from customers.
